General dentists prevent, evaluate, diagnose, and treat diseases of the oral cavity, as well as maintain the function and appearance of the teeth. Many oral diseases and abnormalities can indicate other diseases. A general dentist may refer patients to their physician or a specialist for further evaluation, or vice versa for treatment.

Dental Bridge

A dental bridge can be an effective and long-lasting solution when you have missing teeth.

What is a bridge?

A dental bridge is a frequently used treatment to permanently replace missing tooth. A conventional bridge can be used if you have natural, healthy teeth next to the space left by the missing tooth. Often crafted from porcelain, the prosthetic tooth is supported by dental crowns bonded to the adjacent teeth.

A resin-retained bridge sits over the gum and is held in place with a metal wire which is bonded to adjacent teeth. A resin-retained bridge is a less invasive treatment as it does not involve the creation of new crowns.

Every dental bridge is custom-made to match the appearance of your existing teeth, making them virtually invisible. Eating and speaking become easier and you will enjoy a full smile again.

What does the treatment for a dental bridge involve?

After consultation with your dentist, if you decide a dental bridge is right for you, we will plan your treatment. A dental bridge is generally completed over at least two appointments.

During your first treatment appointment for a conventional dental bridge, the teeth adjacent to the gap will need to be shaped to accept new crowns to support the bridge. Your dentist will use a local anaesthetic to minimise discomfort during this procedure.

When the supporting teeth have been prepared, we will take dental impressions of your teeth. We use specially selected dental labs that then custom makes your new bridge. We match the shape and colour as closely as possible to your existing teeth for a natural look.

Is a bridge right for me?

A dental bridge can be an effective and virtually invisible replacement for missing teeth if the adjacent teeth are strong and healthy. If your natural teeth have already had dental restoration treatment or you have gum or oral health issues, your dentist may consider other treatment options.
